Co-creation in tourism: a systematic mapping studyPurpose The purpose of this study is to organize and analyze the existing literature on co-creation in tourism to identify the state-of-the-art studies and the research gap in this field. Design/methodology/approach As the research questions seek to provide an overview of the studies in the available literature, the systematic mapping study (SMS) has been selected as the research method. A suitable mapping study method for analyzing and structuring a broad research field concerning methods, designs and research focuses on the existing publications. In total, 137 articles published during 2006–2019 in reliable academic databases such as Science Direct, Emerald, Scopus, Wiley, ProQuest, Sage, Web of Science and Taylor and Francis were selected and analyzed. Findings The results show a rising trend of published articles in tourism, with the maximum number published in 2019 and the minimum number in 2006. Also, analysis of input articles revealed that most of the studies focused on the antecedents and prerequisites for co-creation and paid less attention to the co-creation context. Other findings show that in the field of tourism, the hospitality sector, especially hotels have paid special attention to co-creation. The majority of papers were the empirical type with quantitative design. Furthermore, most studies used the survey method, while the case study and other methods were the next choices. Originality/value This study addresses a major research gap by summarizing the literature related to value co-creation with a specific focus on tourism using the SMS method that provides an overview of the studies in this field. Categorizing papers through SMS helps researchers to review the status of studies in a visual summary to identify gaps and directions for future research.
Determinants of customer satisfaction in Islamic banking: evidence from IranMehrdad Estiri, Farshid Hosseini, Hamid Reza Yazdani et al.|International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management|2011 Purpose The purpose of this paper is to clarify and extend the conceptualization and measurement of customer satisfaction in the Islamic banking sector in Iran. Design/methodology/approach The authors perform a review of the set of attributes which are capable of being incorporated in the measure of customer satisfaction for Islamic banks. Later, the possibility is posed of grouping these attributes into dimensions of quality, proceeding to value various alternative structures by means of confirmatory factor analysis methodology and testing their reliability and validity. Findings The findings from this study reveal that service quality in Iranian banking adopting the commercial format of Islamic services has a two‐factor structure: Value proposition quality and Service delivery quality. Originality/value The paper contributes to the literature on Islamic Banking in a Middle Eastern economy.
The perspective of religious and spiritual tourism research: a systematic mapping studyAli Heidari, Hamid Reza Yazdani, Fatemeh Saghafi et al.|Journal of Islamic marketing|2018 Purpose Religious tourism is a form of tourism where people of a particular faith travel to visit places of religious significance in their faith. Previous research into the various aspects of religious and spiritual tourism (RST) has been noticeably extended. The purpose of this study is to perform systematic mapping to provide trends and classification regarding the recent publications in the area of RST. Design/methodology/approach This study collected 181 papers from five scientific databases, from which 122 were selected to be classified according to six properties: research type, research focus, research method, investigated religion, publication type and time. Findings The analysis of these data resulted in a map of the research field, which was presented under three perspectives: the distribution and trends over time of each classification property and the relationship between them. Besides the visual map, the full list of classified papers is available. The results showed that the number of publications is increasing every year, which shows a growing interest in this field. Moreover, the primary research focuses were destination, demand and marketing. Top three journals were found to be International Journal of Tourism Research , Tourism Recreation Research and Journal of Heritage Tourism . Furthermore, evaluation research, solution proposals and opinion papers were the main research types in the area. In addition, the majority of studies focused on Christianity and Islam. Finally, survey, discussion paper, interview and case study were the predominantly used research methods. Originality/value The mapping study delivers the first systematic summary of RST research.
Food Products Consumer Behaviors: The Role of Packaging ElementsA synthesized framework for the formation of startups’ innovation ecosystemHamed Ojaghi, Mehdi Mohammadi, Hamid Reza Yazdani|Journal of Science and Technology Policy Management|2019 Purpose The purpose of this study set out to introduce an alternative framework for explaining the formation of the innovation ecosystem based on the systematic literature review (SLR) and ecosystemic approach. Design/methodology/approach This paper is an SLR of studies from the year 2008-2018 that investigating startups’ innovation. SLR approach being used exploration, interpretation and communication method, which composed of seven steps as follows exploring topics, searching, organizing, evaluating and expanding, integrating and communicating. The output of this process is 63 documents that applied to synthesize the formation framework. Findings The systematic review of literature has shown that researchers in recent years have considered some entities such as incubators, financials suppliers, accelerators, universities and companies in relation to the startup innovations, which are described in this paper as key actors. The study of the relationship between these actors in the documents led to the identification of interactional necessities, including structures, infrastructures and networks. Finally, the processes studied in the literature were classified into three types of mechanisms, namely, the genesis, growth and development of startups innovations. Research limitations/implications The SLR approach is subject to limitations because some poor explanations amongst previous researchers may be repeated and reinforced. Also, in the protocol adopted in this paper, documents are limited in English. Practical implications The introduced frammework can be useful in identifying and understanding the requirements of startups and creating effective policies for their innovation development. Originality/value This paper reviews, summarizes and integrates the growing and scattered literature of the innovation ecosystem of the startups and delivers new facts for the future development of this field.
