Prophet, Edna B., and Hardman, John JVL: Rapid preparation of histologic sections of the whole brain. Techn. Bull. Reg. Med. Techn., 39: 260–262, 1969. A rapid method for processing and preparing histologic sections from slices of whole brain is presented. Excellent histologic sections of more than 50 brain specimens have been prepared by this method. This modified paraffin-embedding technic has reduced the processing time for celloidin-embedded sections from many weeks or months to 1 week. With this method, the tissues lose about 10% of their original volume during dehydration; such shrinkage is not as severe as that produced with celloidin-embedding technic. This method can be easily adapted to standard staining technics now being used in most histopathology laboratories.
