Abstract

Osteomyelitis Secondary to a Contiguous Focus of InfectionOsteomyelitis secondary to a contiguous focus of infection is a direct infection of bone from a source outside the body (exogenous) or a progressive and continuous spread of infection from a contiguous focus. Operative infection is an example of the former, and sinus disease, felons and burns of the latter. Precipitating factors (Table 4)Postoperative infections. Of the 96 postoperative infections in our series 79 were in patients who had had open reduction of fractures.
