Using sedation-agitation scales in the ICU

Abstract

In Brief This article reviews the clinical practice guidelines issued by the Society of Critical Care Medicine, which address topics such as pain, agitation, and delirium to improve outcomes and emphasizes the use of valid and reliable bedside tools for assessing pain, agitation/sedation and delirium in ICU patients such as sedation-agitation scales.
