A STUDY OF THE ERYTHROCYTES IN A CASE OF SEVERE ANEMIA WITH ELONGATED AND SICKLE-SHAPED RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES
Abstract
<h3>I. INTRODUCTION</h3> The present data relates to the blood corpuscles of a mulatto woman who entered the Washington University Hospital, St. Louis, Nov. 3, 1914. The unusual character of the blood picture at once attracted attention and became the subject of extended study by several members of the hospital staff. The clinical data need not be elaborated, as the history of the case up to June, 1915, has been fully recorded by Drs. J. E. Cook and J. Meyer.<sup>1</sup> The patient, aged 21, entered the hospital with an ulcer on the leg. The ulcer healed under treatment and after her discharge from the hospital. Dec. 3, 1914, the patient gained in weight and showed general improvement.
