Abstract

CERAD was funded by the National Institute on Aging with a mandate to standardize assessment in Alzheimer's disease. Accordingly, this program developed and evaluated clinical, neuropsychological and neuropathological assessments, an approach to neuroimaging, a standardized means of obtaining family history, and a behavior rating scale, as well as other measures. Training tapes are available for relevant assessments. Many of these measures have been translated into a number of languages, and used for both clinical evaluation and in epidemiological studies. Longitudinal information on over 1,000 patients with Alzheimer's disease and nearly 500 controls from 24 major medical centers across the U.S. has been written to CD, and is available for analysis. CERAD materials and a bibliography are available from the CERAD main office.
