Abstract

The main purpose of this report is to compile a complete set of life tables for all WHO Member States for the year 2000 in order to compare current patterns of age/sex-specific mortality among countries based on comparable methods. Basic demographic information on the number of deaths by age and sex in a population is a critical input for the determination and evaluation of health policies and programmes.
